…so we pulled it off. We pulled off a surprise birthday party for my dad! He never celebrates his birthday, and he doesn’t like to have parties in honor of him. However, you only turn 60 once in your life (Don’t tell him I told you how old he is *wink*)! …so my mom and I got sneaky on him. We’ve been planning it for a while now. We finished the invitations, organized the surprise plans, and contacted the restaurant some time ago, and I honestly thought the secret was going to leak out somehow. Over 45 people attended, and even family and friends from out of the state knew about the event. The secret didn’t leak out though, and my dad was completely surprised.
Mom and Dad started to walk into the restaurant.
This is one overwhelmed 60 year old!
Even his out of state family knew about it!
Mom and the birthday boy! He really had NO idea.
He loved the fishing vest so much that he wore it! ...and he got TONS of wine!
...and a birthday needs a cake, right?!
I’m glad that he enjoyed his day. …and I’m even more impressed that he had no idea! If you ever read this Dad, a big HAPPY 60th BIRTHDAY to you!
On another note, I thought I’d pass on some information. One of our goals this year is to live debt-free, minus the mortgage and my school loans of course (that is being paid off currently). Last year, we were able to finish paying off two of my credit cards even though we were in the process of remodeling and buying new furniture. Totally on a roll, don’t you think?
Now, I don’t use any credit cards at all! If you are in debt, check this out; it may help you in the long run.

Oh, and if anyone needs to print out their holiday photos, I found these codes:
Snapfish – 50 PRINTS FOR 50 PENNIES – Code: NEWYEAR50
Walgreens – $.09 PRINTS – Code: 9CENTS
I usually just get them printed at Costco for $.13 each. They give you the option to print with matte paper, and you only have to wait about an hour or so for your pictures. Besides, it gives me time to shop around Costco, without a credit card of course, hehe.
Will be back tonight or tomorrow for another post including a potential giveaway!
Hugs,
sarah.

Love the new look of your blog – and what a happy happy occasion! My DH and I worked very hard to be debt-free and that is a big reason why we could go cruising on our sailboat for a while. We have our house and cars paid off, and only use credit cards when we are forced to – like online. Good luck with your goal – it works!

i love that cake! looks so yummy! congrats on pulling off the surprise! we did this for my mom last year for her 50th and she was totally shocked. Isnt it fun to plan things like that? We are on a payoff plan too. We paid off $20K in 2009 and should complete the rest of our payoff in 2010 (with the exception of our mortgage). With every extra payment that we make, a little more weight is lifted. It will be so nice to be debt free! Good luck this year!

WOW..he’s sixty?? Doesn’t look it at all! Love the look of the blog, and how true is that about credit cards!. We have had to put some major stuff on there for health problems with Lucas and all, and are trying like hell to get them paid off, so we will not have any debt on credit cards!!! It is so nice to not have any:) Love, Jess

Happy Birthday to your dad!!! How cool that you really surprised him!!
I am so happy for you for deciding to go debt free! Sounds like you’re off to a great start! We started doing that about three years ago, and we were able to save quite a bit of money for our house. It’s such a great feeling to get rid of debt, isn’t it? I’m proud of you!
