Motivation

[warning: long post with lots of pictures and new layouts]

Since I started blogging, I have received many motivating emails. Some of them asking me questions, and others complimenting me on my work. Last week, however, I received an email that took me by surprise. As a matter of fact, I believe it was uncalled for.

I was told by a reader (obviously left me with no name) that my work was “unoriginal and completely scraplifted“. On top of that, I’m apparently “unattractive“. I was also informed that “no one wants to read about my life and see pictures of Gloria and my not so cute dog” and that to stop writing about my life would be a great idea. There was more to that email that I don’t even care to write out because it would be a waste of my time. Anyway, I was contemplating whether or not to continue writing posts for Red Oak Lines. Well, after much thought and advice from friends, I’ve decided to continue writing.

…and to that ONE anonymous reader, I never meant to offend you or any of my readers for that matter. All I can say to you is that if you don’t like what you see or read, if you don’t like who I am, or what I do, then don’t look at it. It’s as simple as that. This blog was not meant for you or for anyone else. It was intended for myself, my loved ones, and my friends. Quite honestly, you have given me the motivation to keep blogging about my life, who I am, and what I create. You can disagree with me all you want, but that is not going to stop me from anything that I want to do, how I want to live, or what I believe… but thanks for the concern anyways.

Thank you to everyone else for your kind words and encouragment. I thorougly love reading comments from everyone, and it really does make my day!

My trip to Georgia was exhausting, but tons of fun! We went to the High Museum of Art, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, the Georgia Aquarium, and visited various areas of Atlanta. …and yes, I visited the local scrap stores and picked up TONS of new things to play with. Okay enough writing! On to some pictures from the trip (bare with me; there are lots to share):

As for the latest scrapping loot, here’s some of what I got on my trip:

The goodies from Georgia.

Some of the goodies from Georgia. I've already started to use some of it!

We got home late on Saturday night because of all of the delays. Since then, I have been trying to catch up with everything — spending time with Maui, scrapping, and catching up with everyone’s emails and blog posts, of course!

Now, for the GOOD stuff. Let’s talk about the creative stuff!

Pink Sketches released another new sketch for this week! It’s a multi-photo sketch, which is a pretty simple and straight-forward. Use it, and share it with us, so we can add it to the Pink Gallery. The DT’s layouts are fantastic, so make sure to head on over! This is what I came up with:

The Pretty Committee is currently hosting a challenge about being “lucky”. The twist to this challenge is to keep it monochromatic with the color green. I thought it was a fun and creative challenge. Here’s my take on it:

Please head on over to Scrap Outside the Box! It’s the first reveal of the DT’s fabulous layouts. Challenge #3 is all about using rubberband(s) in your layouts. Word is that there are prizes for this challenge, so make sure to give it a try. We’d love to see what you come up with. My rubberband layout:

Also, I was featured over at Sketches! {by tamara} again! Wahoo! The creativity inspired from these girls always seem to give me that extra creative spark to start scrapping. I used Recipe Challenge #39 to create a layout: 1) button trio 2) the color black 3) a punched border!

…and since most people have stated that they enjoy the Maui pictures, here are some new ones to share of her playing in the backyard and at the local dog park.

As for the random question of the post: Hi Sarah! Interesting post! I would love to know what you find to be the most challenging topic to scrap about!

Hmmm… I’d have to say scrapping about myself or my personal life. But then again, who finds talking about themselves on a deeper level easy? I’ve been trying to do a better job of scrapping about myself this year by documenting my adventures, my every day activities, my ups and downs, etc. It’s definitely something I am working on; as a matter of fact, journaling has become one of my favorite parts to scrapping!

Thanks so much for reading and for giving me hope.

sarah.

  1. The random Anon was just jealous because he or she cannot do a fraction of the things you have already done and will do in the future.

We can all point and laugh at the random Anon now. Just proves he or she was a complete waste of time.

Meanwhile, shameless self-promotion: Tea Shop BeLoved πŸ™‚

  2. /points and laughs at Anonymous

  3. i refuse to laugh at them; rather, i choose to ignore and understand that ignorance is a common thing in society. πŸ™‚

besides, it’s not an insult to me — it’s more of a compliment. πŸ™‚

  4. I will comment more on your blog later. I got to get in the shower so I can get my dh off to work by 6am(an hr drive and got to get all 3 kids up). But do have to say…. out of all the photos I seen of the Georgia Aquarium, You have taken the best by far. We are plaining to take the kids there soon. They want to go next month. So hopefully.

  5. i agree, someone is watching you close enough they feel they need to “take you down a notch”. um, okies. *pats anon on the head* also, i HIGHLY agree with the “if you dont like it, leave” school of thought. glad you didnt let this ONE person kill everything you’re done so far here!

  6. I’m so glad you decided to continue blogging!! Your work is amazing so don’t listen to that stupid person.
    xxx, Isolde

  7. YAYS! Sarah is back! (:

Great to know that you are ignoring the person who was trying to harm your feelings. Happy for you!

We the online fellow scrappers and friends adore your layouts, enjoys reading about your life with Maui, Gloria, family and friends!

    Sarah –

You go girl!! Whoever Anon is, let them go back to the whole they crawled out of! I love your work… Don’t let one moron get you down…

I love the layouts you posted. Very cool!! Keep smiling, sista!

  10. what is wrong with some people?? So sorry you had to deal with that!

Holy cow..that is alot of alphas!!!! that reminds me..hmmm…I need to get some new scrappy stuff…

  11. 1. Totally upset by your email. Do NOT understand why people feel the need to be mean to others. Guess it makes them feel better about themselves? Odd.
    2. You are beautiful. Don’t ever think otherwise & certainly do not let that one mean person’s words stay in your head.
    3. EVERYONE’S work ultimately could be considered scraplifting. I mean seriously, how many damn ways can you put photos & journaling on a page so it looks “fresh & new?” And, duh, if you’re doing a sketch challenge, then, um duh it’s a “lift.”
    4. Your work totally inspires me. I want to lift all of it. It’s always so happy, so colorful, so full of good life experiences. We could all use happy, colorful & good life experiences in our own lives.
    5. I β™₯ Cheesecake Factory & Magiannos. I’m getting a craving just thinking about it.
    6. Maui is THE cutest dog ever.
    7. Your new stash is making me want to go to Archivers.
    8. Totally β™₯ your new LO’s… especially the “things to do before 26.” Awesome.
    9. Fun photos… looks like you had a great trip!
    10. You are the best, Sarah. So glad our paths have crossed. Now…. I’m off to lift all of your LO’s. Anyone have a problem with that? LOL! πŸ™‚

  12. HUGS Sarah, you keep doing what you’re doing girl!!!

  13. Sarah~
Your stuff is simply amazing and obviously that person is totally jealous! Scrapbooking is all about sharing our creativity and enjoying what we all have in common… being totally addicated to all things scrappy! :0)
So, keep on, keepin on! We love your stuff!
    Hugs~
    Megan

  14. I think getting a negative comment should be seen as you’ve made it to the big time!!lol.
Seriously, I really enjoy your blog and love your scrappy goodness that you share. You are very talented!

  15. Sean

That anonymous email makes me extremely irate and makes me want to take a crap in their mouths while i choke them with their fallopian tubes and then follow up by kicking them in the ovaries…Anyways, you’re the best you dumber!

    -Red Oak Lines #1 Customer

  16. thanks for the details sean — haha… but that will be unnecessary because you know how i don’t believe in violence (of any form).

    make peace not hate.

oh sarah. i am just glad to learn that this anonymous letter sender didn’t win. but know what? this means you are THAT good. πŸ˜€ just think of it as a blockbuster movie/hollywood celebrity. critically-acclaimed scrapper. hehe.

am glad you are back {and sooner rather than later}.

always remember, you do this stuff for you {your family and friends}. so, GO GIRL. ROCK the scrapping world {all you want}. hihihihi.

**i love that green page**and pesto. yummy! πŸ™‚

  18. Sarah I love your work. That person is just jealous. Yes JEALOUS!!! Its probably someone who YOU bet at a DT spot or Challenge. Oh and obviously they think your freaking fabulous or they would be reading your blog at all. If I dislike a blog or feel for the person I dont go back. Keep doing what your doing babydoll and give the haters a reason to hate….that you are pretty damn fabulous. PS when others put you down, its bc they are self conscious about that part of themselves. I bet they are 500 pounds and full of ugly moles….. After all they were to chicken to leave a name or a link back.

Scrapbooking in general is a form of lifting. Nothing is really ever new. Everyone learns something from someone. As a matter of fact I’m going to lift your cool layered titles in my next page. Some people are so ignorant, their lives must suck. Ahhggg

  19. Love all the new layouts…and the pics of the ocean life are just too cool!!!

    -Sarah

  20. OMG, sarah, I can’t believe how horrible some people can be! I’m so glad that you are staying true to who you are! I, for one, love seeing your photos, hearing your stories, and seeing your creations πŸ™‚ I need to break out that old bumper sticker I used to have when I was in college – mean people suck! lol Love those layouts, and your trip looks like it was a blast!

  21. Welcome back Sarah!! I totally agree with everyone’s comments. That anon is just jealous. Always know that there are a bunch of readers that absolutely love your creations, style, photos, blog, and you. That’s why we all keep coming back! Thank you for sharing the photos from trip. Am looking forward to seeing them again on your pages:)
Have a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow!!!!!

  22. Wow. That’s just nasty and uncalled for, and I’m glad you’re not letting it stop you. I enjoy your blog, and find it very entertaining.

And how anyone could classify Maui as “not-so-cute” is beyond me.

  23. amuffoletto

Thank You for the sweet comments on my blog. Don’t stop writing your blog. I think it is the coolest way to meet cool people. I will surely be back!!! Great pics of Georgia. I grew up in the Santa Barbara are Ojai to be exact of California. Now I am in Louisiana. Looks like you had a great time in Georgia.

  24. My dear girl, I’m so glad that you shared it and aired it! If anything at all, I would say the poor person is consumed by Jealousy and is a BIG coward!!! I mean c’mon, that poor chap has gotta be such a coward to say big mean things but behind the term Anonymous???!!!

Seriously! I think your blog is the most fun and readable blog ever! I love mauling over your layouts, amazed at how much you’ve grown as a scrapper and as a person, amazed at your being real with us over your blog, enjoying the sights of Maui and I think you’re a beautiful person!!!

So…You Go Girl!!!! I’ll be here cheering for you all the way from here in Singapore!!! I’m glad you’ve got that fighting spirit!!!!

  25. WHAT?!?? I don’t know where Ms. Anonymous gets off but her comments were totally unfounded a ridiculous. I find your scrapbook pages to be some of the most creative and unique that I’ve seen. They’re always fresh with imagination and color…you’re creative in the way you combine product lines and mix & match papers.

You take excellent photos…Maui is a doll…and YOU are anything but unattractive. You have beautiful hair, an amazing smile and an enviable complexion. It’s almost as if Anonymous lives in Opposite-World or something. It’s unexplainable. I’m glad you’re not going to let that one crazy person ruin the fun for all the rest of us, though. I was truly terribly concerned that you were going to discontinue this blog!

  26. you unhappy reader can just “Bite Me!”

I LOVE your blog and reading about your life and I’m so glad to see that she only made you stronger πŸ˜‰

beautiful new layouts, Sarah, and love the pics of the trip!!

  27. I just had to comment. I just recently started reading your blog, and I LOVE It, and I think you and your dog are adorable. Whoever said those mean and nasty words is just jealous, and I am very glad that she made you more motivated to continue blogging. I absolutely love your LO’s and pics of your trip. Thank you so much for sharing. You always brighten my day. πŸ™‚
