to win or not to win

“You can’t always win!” That’s what my parents used to tell me when I was a little girl. Why did I try to compete with my older brother when I was bound to lose? However, with every loss, I truly believe that there is something to gain.

The USA soccer team was eliminated from the World Cup today. It was definitely a disappointment in our household, but like I said, there are positive sides to their loss. The players gained experience from playing in a jaw-clinching game. I also know that Little Man has gained tons of experience from watching soccer games these past couple of weeks.

Gloria bought Hilo his own soccer ball (the children sized one) because he always wants to play when he sees us playing soccer. The ball is durable, and surprisingly, there are no punctures yet – just excessive teeth marks! 🙂

As a matter of fact, he’s really good at being a goalie for Mommy. He can stop the ball with his foot, and he can even headbutt it! I think it’s so cute that we’ve got ourselves our very own Schnauzer soccer star.

Maui, on the other hand, likes to sit around and look pretty. Hmm, I wonder where she learned how to do that, haha. 😉

I’m pretty sure I didn’t teach her that, hehe. 😉

Isn’t Maui’s soccer portrait adorable?! Strike a pose! It was as if she wanted us to snap a photo of her sitting with Hilo’s soccer ball. I’ll consider this picture a winner!

Speaking of winning and losing, I have succumbed to Gloria’s new hobby – – building structures with Legos. At first I wasn’t too keen about the idea of Legos all over the place (I shouldn’t complain because I have paper and embellishments everywhere, haha). …but it’s really neat to see how creative one can get with blocks. Here are a couple of photos I snapped of her latest creation:

…and because Legos were allowed, Gloria caved in to my desire to visit the Winchester Mystery House. Have you ever heard of this place?! Supposedly, it’s one of the nation’s most haunted places. It’s been featured on various TV shows for all of its acclaimed supernatural activity.

When we got there, Gloria was still hesitant to take the tour of the house. I, on the other hand, was excited to explore this Victorian mansion.

No, I didn’t see, hear, or feel anything supernatural. However, many local people have shared various stories of the supernatural. I have to admit that even though I did not witness anything, it was definitely a spooky place to be. I consider myself defeated at that place. S-C-A-R-Y!

Lastly, I have picked a random winner for the Zutter baby blog hop! Come on down…

Congrats! Please send an email to redoaklines@gmail.com with your information, so I can have Zutter send out your prize.

That’s all for today. I should be out and about at the clubs shakin’ my thang with friends, but I decided not to hit up the city. I think I’m getting old because I prefer to stay at home, haha! Do I sense defeat?! Should I hang my head down in shame?!

Night out in the city (1) – Sarah (0)

Okay, okay… I won’t say anything because I am feeling the glares from some of you. 😉 In my opinion, I think I won because I don’t have to deal with lots of annoying people pushing and shoving me around at the bars/clubs.

  5. Those pics are adorable, Daisy loves to play soccer with us too, but her soccer ball is flat now, makes it easier for her to grab it and run. hehe.
Wow, jealous about the Winchester Mystery House, AJ wants to go there so bad and we never end up going.
Loving the Lego work, Lego’s are fun to build with but they sure hurt to step on. Have a nice weekend.

  7. Going out (8) – Scott (0)

I feel like the North Korean football team. No Sharks games, no Tour of California in Auburn, no Earthquakes vs. Chivas USA at Raley Field, no Final Fantasy concert in SF, no River Cats game next week, no Jack Johnson in October, no Winchester House, no Anime Expo in July, etc etc etc. 😦

  8. LOL, leave it to you Sarah…your posts always crack me up! Awesome pics by the way. 😉 Those Lego creations especially ROCK. My oldest daughter is a HUGE fan of Legos and would love to see them…

I don’t follow soccer all that much, even though my Mom’s family is German…but the Lego’s, wow, that brings back memories of my younger brother creating and me stepping on those darn little pieces ALL the time!

Excited to have won and can’t wait to get craftin’!

    Too cute about the soccer!

great pictures!! i also want to visit the winshester house. i’ve seen a lot about it on tv, so its something that i want to check out. i went to college in new orleans and there were lots of creepy places to visit there…so if you’re into that kind of thing and you’re ever down south, you should definitely go check it out 🙂

  12. Ugh. Winchester Mystery House… HATED IT! I wanted it to be more mysterious and weird. Instead, it was basically an overpriced tour through a poorly built house. I feel for Gloria. 🙂

  13. Maui and his ball is just too cute! I love the pic where he’s up in the air batting at it. I once watched a whole documentary on the Winchester Mansion and ever since, have always wanted to visit! That’s cool that you got to go.

Ps. I LOVE Legos! They are toys that truly cross all generation gaps. A few months ago, I saw they were coming out with a couple of games, one sort of like Lego Pictionary. I haven’t seen it anywhere yet to decide if I should get it though…ha!

  14. Bummer for the US for sure…

As for the Legos… Bryn plays with them every time we go to the Y, while I’m in my classes. She just told me yesterday she wants to ask for some for Christmas. I knew when I showed her these photos on your blog that she was going to LOVE them. Her reply? “I wish was like Gloria.” hee hee!

Guess Santa better bring some Legos?!

  15. Gloria looks thrilled. 🙂 That’s probably what I would look like if I had to go someplace haunted. Which I’m sure will happen, considering who I’m married to. Haha.

Love the soccer pics. All that’s missing are little jerseys!

Please keep posting pics of Gloria’s LEGOs! I’m impressed! I was all about the LEGOs back in the day.

  16. Hilo is so cute. Mackenzie says we should definitely get together….she is to die to animate Gloria’s legos! lol Love the Winchester Mystery House. Do you know they do night tours? ewwwww, spoooooky. I would love to do that one. Let’s go!

    • yikes! you’re daring. i think i’d be too scared. i hear that it’s DARK DARK DARK… and you only get flashlights. hahaha.

  17. Great action photo of Hilo! Love it! I was a huge fan of Lego’s when I was a little girl.. Use to drive my mom nuts.. Lego’s every where! Ha!

  18. Lisa D(pdrnc)

Gloria, great job with the legos. My son plays with them and his imagination runs away and he can sit for hours building. Stinks when you step on one bare-footed though!

  19. Jacque

SCORE!!!! Go Maui! You fur babies are just so adorable!

  20. Sarah your fur babies are so sweet and you always get the best photos of them! Truly amazing! I love how much fun you have with them and to see how much they are truly a part of your life through photos and layouts is a great inspiration!
You are a real WINNER in my books…….

  21. I LOVE the Mystery House. I took dozens of pics when I went there a few years ago. Still need to scrapbook most of them. LOL.

What a cute Schnauzer soccer star you have!
