ice skating and alcatraz.

I am writing a blog post now rather than later because I know how busy things are going to get for me this week, especially with Turkey Day coming up on Thursday. Anyway, I just wanted to share our adventures from this past weekend before I forget to do it later, haha!

Nat and Sean came down to visit (and to celebrate Nat’s birthday) with us. …and you know what we did?! We went ice skating at the Winter Lodge in Palo Alto. Um, yeah… I’m horrible at it, but I find it so enjoyable. Surprisingly, my tush didn’t hit the ice at all! I apologize for the quality of these photos and video. They were taken with my phone because I was scared to carry around the SLR on the ice, hehe.

…and we actually remembered to capture a video. Here’s one of me and Sean skating in to take a break:

Just looking at these photos makes me really want to go ice skating again. Not only is it tons of fun, it’s a great workout; my thighs were hurting the next day.

The next morning, we all got up early and headed toward the city. Both Nat and I are avid National Park passport stamp collectors, so we thought it would be fun to hit up Alcatraz. Last time I was on the rock was many years ago, so it was definitely a sight to see.

If you’re into history, this is definitely one place you have to add to your must visit list. There’s lots of history on the rock, and I highly recommend doing the free audio tour in the main prison. It’s totally worth listening to; I learned so much about the prison in under an hour! Besides, you get great views of the city from the island.

Yup, that pretty much sums up our past weekend.

If I don’t get around to posting before Thursday, hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. Let the holiday season commence!

PS: I haven’t started decorating for Christmas yet! Yikes! I’m behind already…

mermaids should be real.

The past weekend was exceptionally fun. We took a trip out to San Francisco to hit up the California Academy of Sciences. My older brother had never been, so we thought it would be fun to check it out on his birthday weekend. It has been a while since the last time we went, so I was pretty stoked to go.

My favorite part of this place was definitely the aquatic exhibits. Sea life has always been so intriguing to me. Perhaps it’s because I looked up to Ariel (the Disney mermaid) as a little kid, haha! Now, if mermaids were only real… 😉 I suppose sea dragons and seahorses of the deep blue will suffice.

On another note, not much has changed in the California Academy of Science’s exhibits, but I still managed to learn something new.

If you are ever in the area, you should check this place out. It’s definitely worth the visit.

That’s it for today.

PS: Happy early birthday, brother!

day at the san francisco zoo.

Last Friday, we decided it would be a fun day to check out the San Francisco Zoo. I don’t remember my first visit here, so it was basically like seeing it for the first time. My cousin had never been before, so it was definitely a fun experience for her. For being a smaller zoo, I thought it was simply average, but then again, I might just be biased because I went to the San Diego Zoo a few years ago.

Checking out their variety of creatures was educational though. As a matter of fact, I learned a handful of random facts that I found to be very interesting.

Here are just a handful of the photos that we took:

We spent close to five hours exploring all of the exhibits, and by the end of the day, each of us learned tons of new facts about the creatures in the zoo. If you’re in the area, take advantage of this place. Besides, admission fees go back to protecting these animals.

Happy Monday!

the colorful weekend.

Colorful. What does it mean to you?

In my opinion, it means that people live in an array of shades; it means that life isn’t just black and white. To me, it means living a life filled with exciting journeys and positive people.

It was definitely a fun weekend with family and friends. We were able to make it up to San Francisco for the parade this weekend. We walked around, enjoyed the beautiful weather, and had a great time dancing to the music. It was definitely a colorful weekend to remember!

Here were just a few of some of those colorful photos from the parade:

Looks like a crazy time, huh?! Well, it pretty much was, so I didn’t really get that many photos of all of us playing in the streets. Next time, I have to remember to shoot photos of the important people, haha!

Natalie (Sean’s sweetheart), me, and Angel (my scrap/anxious sister) stopped for a photo.

Random group shot.

Is that Gloria giving that creep the stink eye for Angel?!

…and some photos from the phone:

Those are all the photos I have for now. I told you that I didn’t take that many.

If you haven’t made it out to a Pride Parade, you should definitely experience it at least once. I think it’s definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. That is if you’re open to that kind of thing, haha!

I feel the urge to be crafty. WOW! Right now, I plan on pulling out my rotary cutter and playing with fabric. I also want to work on a handful of paper projects. Decisions, decisions. I always want to do 13,940,823,290 things, and that becomes hazardous, haha! I wish I could pick ONE task and just go with it. Hmmm… I do, however, have an American Crafts project in mind. Maybe I shall start with that?

There are lots of exciting, crafty opportunities arising in my near future. I can’t really say anything just yet, but it’s gonna be good!

PS: I can’t wait for this upcoming weekend! I get an extra day to play, and we’ll be spending it with family for our annual get together. It’s gonna be filled with more color (aka, fireworks). Seriously, I can’t wait for the tasty BBQ and our family fireworks.

PPS: It’s the last week on the project. Are you excited?! I am.

one sunny april weekend.

The weather has been pretty fantabulous this month. Thus far, the rain hasn’t been dominating our blue sunny skies. Well, with the exception of today and apparently the rest of this week. This past Saturday everyone was out and about, and lots of fun people came to drop into Our Paper Place. I had tons of fun doing make and takes with all of you, especially with the little ones that dropped in to make their mini albums.

For all you local bay area peeps, Our Paper Place will have another make and take soon, so stay tuned for the information on that!

On Sunday, we headed up to the city. It’s been a while since we spent the day gallivanting aimlessly. …so I suggested that we check out the murals out in the Mission. I’ve heard so much about them, but I never had the chance to see them in person. Here are some fun pictures of the murals:

…and because the weather was so nice, we spent time in our patio. Maui and Hilo enjoyed getting to play with their toys. I love that they always pose for my camera, haha!

They’re such hams, and that’s no joke! Hilo especially loves taking pictures. 😉 That makes the both of us, haha!

Last but not least, I wanted to share some projects that I created this past Friday.

Tammy, my newest crafty friend, brought some supplies to work on cards for the troops. She told me that Cards 4 Troops was looking for Father’s Day cards to donate, so here are a couple simple ones that I created:

We all know that I’m not much of a cardmaker, but I tried my very best. Hopefully the person who receives it will like it.

My good friend, Lindsay, sent me some cute photos of her and hubby. With me being the scrapbooker that I am, there was no way I was going to pass up a layout! This one is using the Timeless collection from Bo Bunny. It’s not typically the style I would use on a layout, but I actually like the way this layout came out.

…so what do you think?! It’s totally not a “Sarah-kind-of layout”, but I love the elements in this one. If you want to replicate it or see it in person, head into the store! I’d be more than happy to help you recreate it. 😉

Okay, that’s my post for today. Now, it’s time for Scrabble and movie night!
