For some reason, this week went by slow for me, excruciatingly slow. Seriously, it was painful waiting for the weekend to arrive because I anticipated heading to the beach. Sometimes, I think I should just live there. Eh, a girl can always dream, right?! šŸ˜‰

As for my creativity, there hasn’t been much creating on my end. *coughslackercough* I tried working last night, but I just didn’t have any creative spark in me. Hopefully soon, I’ll find inspiration to get back into the groove of things. In the meantime, I thought I’d share a Jillibean Soup layout that I finished earlier this week.

I decided to use one of the first techniques I learned when I started scrapbooking – layering. It’s a simple and great way to add texture to your project. When you’re stuck in a creative rut, layer. I promise you’ll come out with something brilliant. Plus, it allows for colors and patterns to pop off your page!

I also finished a quick and easy mini album that I plan on teaching at Memories Live On. I’m not exactly sure when I’m teaching this class, but I will update that on my Classes page as soon as I confirm all of the details.

It’s a 4×6 mini album that will be featuring products from an upcoming kit from The Sampler, and let’s just say that it’s loaded with a ton of fun Echo Park Paper! I binded my book using my Bind it All by Zutter, of course! All together, it’s a bright and cheery project, wouldn’t you say?! šŸ˜‰

Now, it’s time for me to start gearing up into beach mode. We seriously need to get some rest and relaxation this weekend!

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?

happy 2nd birthday, blog!

…so today is actually quite a special day for my blog.

Today marks the 2nd year of my consistent blogging! Can you believe that?! I remember when I was still contemplating whether or not I should write. I was afraid to even get started. I was afraid of sharing my work. Even though it was written for my own personal documentation, I was frightened out of my wits to talk about my everyday life in a public space.

I started writing to pass the rough times in my life. I would have never thought that two years ago I’d be where I am today. My blog has opened up such amazing opportunities to me.

With all of that said, Happy Birthday Red Oak Lines.

In honor of this happy day, I want to do a giveaway of one of Imaginisce‘s exclusive class kits from CHA. It features products from the super cute line, Birthday Bash. Isn’t it fitting for this special occasion?! šŸ˜‰

To enter, just comment to this post sharing a link to one of your favorite blogs. It’s as simple as that! You have until next Sunday, August 15th!

Two events happened this Friday.

1) I went to the local expo and helped at The Sampler Kit Club booth. It was good to see some local familiar faces. Hi, Nancy!

2) I went to crop with a bunch of crazy gals at Scrapbook Territory that very night. It was definitely a wild and crazy time, but I still managed to get some work done, haha! Here are some of our pretend photo booth pictures:

Also at the crop, I was browsing through the August issue of CARDS Magazine. …and guess who’s in it using Imaginisce stuff?!

Yesterday was just as eventful! I headed out to Art Inspired Studios to teach my bind-it-all mini album class. It was definitely a success. I had such a great time with a wonderful group of girls. I even got to meet two of my awesome blog readers, and they were so sweet! Hi Becky and Audra!

With the trending TWO in this post, I thought I’d share two of my recent layouts that I created at the crazy crop from this past Friday. This first layout highlights some of the fun papers from Studio Calico. It’s a simple design, but I love that it shows off some of my favorite photos from my Chicago trip.

The layout posted below uses the latest from Sassafras Lass. I thought the subtle, feminine colors in this Indie Girl line were so pretty. I couldn’t resist the urge to get it down onto a layout.

…and one last time, IĀ  wanted to wish my blog a happy 2nd birthday! Don’t forget to comment to this post for your chance to win those Imaginisce goodies. šŸ™‚

PS: Thank you to everyone for the congratulations on the American Crafts DT. I really, really, really appreciate all of the support and the kind emails, messages, and comments I have been receiving all weekend. Honestly, I still can’t believe it.

imaginisce sketch + random updates

I didn’t realize it was August until I peeked at the calendar and realized it was time to post Imaginisce‘s monthly sketch. I was in charge of creating a sketch for the month, so I want to see all of you creating with this sketch:

I decided to create a layout using Birthday Bash. Here’s my take on the above sketch:

Now, who’s ready for a giveaway?! Leave a comment to this post to win a generous giveaway from Imaginisce. Don’t forget to head on over to the Imaginisce blog to increase your chances of winning! You’ll also want to check out the inspirational work from the rest of the DT.

On a completely different note, I’m still recovering from the craziness of CHA. However, I actually had the chance to sit down and create three layouts yesterday. I also uploaded the rest of the photos from the show. Here are some pictures with some wonderful and talented gals:

Miss Nan(ny) Goat does a wonderful job for Zutter.

I spotted Pam in the Helmar booth. Isn’t she adorable?!

That night, a group of us gals went out to get dessert. Yum! I ordered a banana creme pie. Unfortunately, I only had room for a third of it, but it was mighty delicious ! …and over dinner, I learned a couple of things from Jing-Jing. (1) There’s a difference between “sour” and “tart”. I know, it’s a no-brainer, but I honestly thought it was synonymous. (2) Minnesota is apparently boring. šŸ˜‰

Gloria and I made it out to the city one more time before we had to leave Chicago. It was one of the best parts of the trip. We walked the Magnificent Mile and explored Navy Pier. …and it was my first time to get on a ferris wheel! I was scared at first, but I realized that it was neat to be that high up.

I wasn’t scared waiting in line, but then I looked up at the ferris wheel. Here’s what I was looking at from below:

…so I pretended that I wasn’t nervous at all, even though my anxiety disorder started to kick in. šŸ˜‰

Pretty neat, huh?! I’m surprised that I actually had the nerve to give it a try. Actually, I’m proud of myself for trying something I normally would have said “OH HECK NO” to. I probably should have taken more photos from up top, but I was holding on for dear life, haha! šŸ˜‰

I have winners to the CHA giveaways! The lucky winners are…

Please shoot me an email at redoaklines@gmail.com to claim your prizes. Thanks to everyone else for playing. Stay tuned for future giveaways.

…and speaking of giveaways, my friend Katrina is hosting one over at her blog right now. Make sure to check it out! Click here to play!

Lastly, I wanted to share one of the three layouts that I worked on yesterday. Can you believe I actually used some Basic Grey paper?! It’s not very typical of me, so when I finished this one, I was really impressed at myself, hehe. šŸ˜‰

As for this upcoming week, I plan on getting a handful of projects done before the weekend. …so if you enjoy looking at my work, check back later in the week for loads of inspiration.

PS: If I haven’t been by your blog in a while, please forgive me. As you know, I’ve been quite a busy girl this summer. I plan on trying to catch up some time this week. In the mean time, keep bloggin’!

summer cha part 4

I’m so glad that all of you are loving the pictures. I’ve got more to show today, so sit back and stay a while!

Wednesday, July 28th: Today, I woke up extremely tired. I stayed up until 3 am last night creating a mini album! Last minute projects are so not my friend, haha. Nonetheless, I got it done. Phew! I spent some time walking around the show floor mingling with other people in the industry. …but don’t you worry, I had to make sure I worked the booths too, lol.

This is one of my favorite lines by American Crafts.

On top of being creative, Liz is an incredibly sweet friend.

Deana was one of my very first online scrapping friends!

…and Jing Jing too! I heart these girls (and their work)!

Look who spotted me! It’s the talented Delaina.

Here’s my friend, Liz Hicks! She does amazing work for Tattered Angels.

Check out the new Jillibean Soup goodness!

Mr. Boss Man (aka Felipe) and the wonderful (Nan)ny Goat from Zutter!

Norma is super sweet! I heart her (and Damien).

All of us Punky Sprouts gals are super crazy!

…so what do you think?! Complete fun, right?! I have a bunch of other photos that I haven’t posted yet, so check back soon. For now, I thought I’d share a layout that I haven’t posted yet.

I created this page using the July kit from The Sampler, which by the way is completely sold out. …but doesn’t Maui look super adorable waiting in the backseat of the car? She always sits so proper; it’s so cute.

Now that I’m back at home, I plan on unpacking and cleaning! Then, I look forward to getting down and dirty in the scrap room. šŸ˜‰ I’ve got a ton of new stuff that I’m dying to use!

Happy Saturday!

summer cha part 3 (and giveaway)

CHA is officially over, but guess what?! Today, I’m finally posting pictures from opening day of Summer CHA 2010! I know I’m behind on posting, but there’s a reason for that, haha. šŸ˜‰

Tuesday, July 27th: The floor was busy, busy, busy! Everyone’s exhibit looked amazingly beautiful; they were all loaded with inspiration. I worked mostly at the Imaginisce booth doing make and takes that feature the itop and the latest tool, the irock. The irock was a huge hit. Everyone wanted to give it a whirl! Later on, I stopped by to briefly help at the Punky Sprouts and Zutter booths.

Below are a handful of photos from the show floor on opening day. Some of these faces you might recognize. šŸ˜‰

At the Punky Sprouts booth, it was always fun and crazy!

Kiki Art partnered up with Zutter at this show! L to R: Nan, Nana, me, Kiki

Suzy and Tricia are HILARIOUS! Here, we were trying to do a make and take, haha!

When you’re waiting in line, here’s how to stay entertained. DANCE! šŸ™‚

I dropped by Nikki‘s booth. I look so gross here, haha!

I ran into a fellow Zutter Zister. Pam‘s so incredibly sweet.

I had to say hello to my friend, Stephanie, owner and designer of Bella Blvd.

I finally met Becky! She’s so adorable and full of energy!

Kiki, owner of Kiki Art, has become one of my good friends. I HEART this girl! šŸ™‚

I wasn’t joking when I said that I was swamped, hehe. šŸ™‚ …and these are just a handful of the photos from the first day. I also met up with Deana and Jing-Jing, but for some reason we didn’t take photos when we first met up. We must’ve been to busy drooling over all of the new products being released.

Overall, it was definitely a good day! …and because I’m feeling generous, I’m doing another giveaway for an exclusive freebie from CHA. How about a free Making Memories apron?!

Leave a comment to this post telling me how you know/found out about my blog, and your name will be entered into the drawing. You have until Sunday, August 1st by 11:59 pm to play!

Stay tuned for more pictures from Day 2 of CHA. šŸ˜‰

PS: I fly home today. California, here I come. I totally miss my babies, and I can’t wait to cuddle them to pieces. šŸ˜‰ Oh, and don’t forget — Kiki Art DT call! I want to see all of you talented ladies applying to this one!
